Foreign Minister, Constantinos Kombos, participated on Tuesday, in New York, in a trilateral meeting with Greek Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis and Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty.
The three ministers reviewed Cyprus–Greece–Egypt cooperation in the fields of security, energy, and shipping, and exchanged views on regional developments.
According to a press release issued by the Greek side the Greece–Cyprus–Egypt trilateral meeting, “the latest developments in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East were the focus of the discussions, while prospects for deepening cooperation in areas such as trade, investment, energy, connectivity, migration, and tourism were examined. The three ministers committed to intensify their coordination to jointly address regional challenges.
Continuing his diplomatic contacts in New York on the sidelines of the High-Level Week of the 80th UN General Assembly, Kombos had, according to a post on his X account, a meeting with the Omani Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi with who he discussed Cyprus–Oman bilateral relations and the priorities of the upcoming Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU
Kombos also met with Qatar’s Minister of State, Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al Khulaifi. Their discussions focused on further strengthening bilateral relations, preparations for Cyprus’s EU Presidency, and regional developments.
Furthermore, the Foreign Minister met with Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis. The two sides discussed ways of advancing Cyprus–Switzerland cooperation and EU–Switzerland relations in light of Cyprus’s forthcoming EU Council Presidency.
Kombos also met with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, with whom he discussed regional issues.
Moreover during a meeting with Andorra’s Foreign Minister, Imma Tor Faus, he exchanged views with her on strengthening bilateral cooperation as well as EU–Andorra relations, ahead of the Cyprus EU Presidency.
Special emphasis was placed on Cyprus–Brunei relations and Middle East developments during a meeting Kombos had with Brunei’s Foreign Minister Erywan Yusof. EU–ASEAN relations and the priorities of the Cyprus Presidency were also discussed.
The Cypriot Foreign Minister met also with the Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi. Talks focused on EU–GCC relations, with particular reference to the forthcoming EU–GCC Joint Ministerial Council to be held in October in Kuwait.
Moreover, Kombos had a constructive meeting with his Kazakh counterpart, Murat Nurtleu. Both sides agreed to further strengthen Cyprus–Kazakhstan cooperation while reaffirming the importance of international law.
