According to a post by the Presidency of the Republic of Cyprus, President Christodoulides will address the General Assembly tomorrow, at 21:00 Cyprus time, “highlighting, in this critical geopolitical juncture, the importance of multilateralism, collective responsibility and cooperation in addressing common challenges”. “He will also highlight the positions of the Republic of Cyprus and stress our initiatives at regional and European level, as well as the upcoming Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU,” it added.

“He will also refer to our efforts for a solution to the Cyprus problem and the reunification of our occupied homeland, with the aim of a free, secure, strong and prosperous Cyprus for all its citizens,” the post concluded.

Cyprus has been divided since 1974, when Turkey invaded and occupied its northern third. Repeated rounds of UN-led peace talks have so far failed to yield results. The latest round of negotiations, in July 2017 at the Swiss resort of Crans-Montana ended inconclusively.
